Design and Development of Multipurpose Mechanical Machine
This topic deals with the design, development, and fabrication of multi-purpose mechanical machine which perform three operations at a time namely drilling, shaping, and cutting.
Today, we see that these operations are the heart of any workshop/ machine shop and they are indispensable, so for the time saving of any organization three different operations on three different jobs can be performed simultaneously, however jigs and fixtures are required to attain this, but when our need is specified and particular then this machine can be time-saving equipment.
This machine is automatic and controlled by an electric motor and it is based on the scotch yoke mechanism. It can be used in small-scale industries/workshops to work upon thin metallic sheets and on wood in the carpentry shop.

Problem Statement
To design and develop a Multipurpose Mechanical Machine that is designed for the purpose of multiple operations like Drilling, Cutting, Shaping, etc.
The machine should perform multiple operations at the same time with the required speed and it should be automatic.
Objective
The objective of the machine is to perform multiple operations at a time and reduce production time.
Construction of Multipurpose Mechanical Machine
The requirement of a Multipurpose Mechanical Machine is the conversion of rotary motion to reciprocating motion. The reciprocating motion also called reciprocation is a repetitive up down and back forth linear motion found in a wide range of mechanisms including reciprocating engine and pump.
Scotch yoke mechanism is used in the machine to provide reciprocating motion to the hacksaw and shaper and bevel gear arrangement for the drilling operation.
Although not a common metalworking machine nowadays, crude shapers can use scotch yoke, almost all those use a with worth linkage, which gives a slow speed forward cutting speed and faster return.

The Scotch Yoke Mechanism also called a slotted link mechanism is a reciprocating motion mechanism, converting the linear motion of a slider into rotary motion or vice versa.

Drilling
Drilling is a metal cutting process that uses a drill bit to produce a circular hole in a solid object.
Shaping
A shaping machine is used to flat metal surfaces where a large amount of metal has to be removed.
Cutting
A hacksaw is a fine-tooth saw with a blade held under tension in a frame, used for cutting material such as metal or plastic.

- We can perform grinding operations by introducing a grinding tool on the main shaft.
- We can perform a boring operation by introducing a boring tool by replacing the drilling tool.
- We can change the motor speed by the regulator.
